Recently in studying the ten Commandments, Moses and the Israelite people one can't help but see the vast love of God throughout.
Sure many see the "thou shalt nots", and all the definitive words such as "You shall..." may sound hard and demanding for the Israelite people as it is for people today.
As an independent lot it's terribly hard to be told to do certain things, or not do another things. In fact, I think many have a level of rebel inside that simply can't help but do the opposite of what your told. Sound familiar to anyone?
But let's consider the scripture that is the greatest commandment of all, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength". Deut 6:4 That's asking or should I say commanding one to commit fully to the Lord. The thing is, and this is really important, we are free to choose. Although the scriptures states things as a command, at the end of the day, each and every one of us has a choice to make. We get to choose God, choose to follow His ways, choose to love Him or we reject Him.
Seeing clearly that the Creator God chooses, with great effort I might add, to enter a relationship with us,, what does that look like?
Moses was taken to Mt Sinia by God after leading the Israelites out of Egypt. God spoke to Moses and said "You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles wings and brought you to myself. Now, if you will indeed obey my voice and keep my Commandments, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people, for all the earth is mine."
Wow, what a promise! The God of the universe sees me as His special treasure. I've waited my entire life to feel like that to someone and my Heavenly Father looks at me that way.
Some might argue that that is old testament and only for the Jewish people. But the New Testament tells me I am "His Masterpiece". I believe that He desires a special relationship with each of us. And when we accept Jesus and begin to grasp, even for a second, how deep and magnificent His love is for us we begin to walk differently. Possibly hold our head a little higher as a child of God would. Not in arrogance but in acceptance of His great love and care.
Beginning to grasp this deep, intentional, forgiving, kind LOVE which is written from beginning to end. I have a desire to give as a response to His great love, I choose to love the Lord my God with all my heart, with all my soul and with all my strength.
