Where does your Bible reside? Does it have a place in your life where it's easily accessed? Or is it on a shelf collecting dust, or in your car where it can be located the next time you attend church? Recently my husband was asked to help an elderly neighbor whom he had never met and their Bible placement made an impact on him.
Ed entered the home having been ask to assist the gentleman from his bed to his wheelchair. This gentleman was of size and unable to manage himself. The beautiful white haired lady whom was his wife and their caretaker found the task much more than they can handle and required help.
This move was no problem for my strong, willing and able husband. He quickly assessed the need and knew to wrap his arms around the man pulling him up and shifting him to a chair. Task complete.
The soft eyes of the wife looked up and with such loving care for her husband ask if Pastor Ed would say a prayer for her husband. The honor was his to speak to our Heavenly Father on behalf of this sweet couple.
It was about this time he noticed through the doorway, into the kitchen that there on the kitchen table was a battle worn copy of The Holy Bible. One can image the many meals and times that were spent pouring over the love, promises and truth that resides between the covers of this book. How often when faced with life's difficulties they had sat together searching for the answers to the current problem or impossible situation. Hand in hand they would find their comfort and wisdom in the Word of God.
This quick snapshot into the lives of strangers reminded us that the importance that is placed upon the Holy Word of God can make all the difference in life. As we all know, life is hard. But knowing Jesus personally and relying upon His Word and direction can make all the difference.
